We are Ricardo and Jocelyn. Here is our story:
In 2002, Jocelyn, from Lititz, PA, traveled to Valparaiso, Chile to study Spanish. Ricardo, from Puerto Montt, Chile, was working on his dissertation in physical oceanography in Valparaiso at the same time. We met, fell in love, and were married in 2005. Since we were married, we have been living in the US (Fredericksburg, VA) but have always dreamed of returning to Chile. And ever since we have been dreaming of our return, we asked ourselves, why not make it an adventure by driving there?
A couple years ago, we decided it was "now or never" to make the big trip and the big move. We had the opportunity to buy a beautiful piece of land near Puerto Montt and near Ricardo's family. We jumped at the chance and have been saving up money and putting plans in place for our overland journey.
Since neither of us has spent much time in the Western US, we decided that we will travel north first, to Canada and across to the West Coast US, hitting as many national parks as we can. We both love hiking and camping so we will be doing a lot of this on our trip. After the US, we plan on traveling through as many countries and experiencing as many cultures as we can! Our good friends Sarah and Matt are also planning to join us for part of the journey...we can't wait for that!
The name "Trailing to Patagonia" combines both our desire to conquer many hiking trails on our trip, and the "Cub" travel trailer that will be our home for the duration of the trip, and probably quite a bit of time once we make it to Puerto Montt, until we can build something on our land. :) Let the adventures begin...
